Event translation cost calculator

Most vendors in this category quote per engagement, so buyers cannot budget without starting a sales process. These are the published Pikka Speech units, with the arithmetic shown. Change the inputs and watch which decisions actually move the number.

Worked examples

Each total below was reproduced from the Pikka Speech production billing rules on August 3, 2026. They are rendered by the same function that powers the calculator above, so the two cannot disagree.

ScenarioTotal
One AI-audio language, 25 listeners$548
Five AI-audio languages, 25 listeners$2,740
One AI-audio language, caption display, 100 listeners$948
One text-only language, 100 listeners$324
Three AI-audio languages, 200 listeners$1,994
Two AI plus one human-only language, 25 listeners$1,145
Three AI-audio languages, caption display, 250 listeners$2,344
Two text-only languages, 150 listeners$623
Five AI-audio languages with video, 400 listeners$3,865
One AI-audio language with video, 25 listeners$548

Note the last two rows. Enabling video costs nothing at 25 listeners, because the surcharge rides on paid seats only — but at 400 listeners it adds $375.

How to use this without fooling yourself

Enter peak concurrency, not registrations. The only number that matters for seats is how many people listen at the same moment. Overestimating here is the most common way to inflate a language budget.

Decide audio versus text by asking the audience. It is the largest cost lever in the whole model, and it is usually decided by default rather than by asking the people who will use it. A group that reads the target language comfortably may be better served by text — and it costs less than half.

Add interpreter fees yourself. A human-only channel drops the $499 AI fee but Pikka does not supply the linguist. If you are comparing against a vendor that sources interpreters, add your own staffing cost to this column or the comparison is meaningless.

Normalize before comparing quotes. Competitors meter differently — annual hour pools, per-session hours, per-language hours. Ask precisely how an hour is consumed before setting any quote beside this total.

Frequently asked questions

How much does live translation for an event cost?

With Pikka Speech the units are published, so it can be calculated rather than quoted. An AI-audio target language is $548 for a room of up to 14 hours, a text-only target language is $249, a live caption display is $250, and 25 listeners are included. Beyond that an audio listener is $2 and a text listener is $1, with $1 added to each paid seat when video is enabled. Most competitors in this category quote per engagement rather than publishing amounts, so a like-for-like comparison requires requesting written quotes for the same scope.

What drives the cost of a multilingual event most?

Two things: the number of target languages, and whether the audience needs to listen or to read. A text-only language is $249 against $548 for synthesized audio, and a paid text listener is $1 against $2, so an audience that reads the target language comfortably can cost less than half as much to serve. Duration is not a driver within the 14-hour room, and neither is total registration — only realistic peak concurrent listeners.

Do I pay per hour?

No. A Pikka Speech event pass covers a configured room for up to 14 hours, so a one-hour webinar and a full conference day carry the same language charges. This differs from the annual hour packages used by some competitors, where usage is metered against a purchased pool and unused hours may expire.

How many listeners should I enter?

The realistic peak number listening at the same time, not total registrations or attendees. A 2,000-delegate congress might have 250 people using interpretation; a 300-person community meeting might have 250. Estimating from the registration list is the most common way to overbuy.

Does enabling video cost extra?

Video adds $1 to each paid listener seat, and the first 25 included listeners stay free whether or not video is on. That means one AI-audio language with video for 25 listeners is still $548 — the video costs nothing at that size. At 400 listeners, each of the 375 paid seats moves from $2 to $3.

Are interpreter fees included?

No. A human-only channel carries the $49 base language fee without the $499 AI interpretation fee, but Pikka Speech does not source interpreters. You engage, brief and pay the linguists separately, and their professional fees sit outside the software price shown here.

Is this estimate binding?

No. It is calculated from the same published units the product uses and every worked example on this page was reproduced from the production billing rules, but taxes are excluded and product pricing can change. Confirm the live total in Pikka Speech before purchasing.
